The Advanced Practice RN is appointed by the Medical Director with the approval of the Superintendent. This role involves overseeing and delivering advanced clinical medical services under physician supervision. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, and providing comprehensive patient care either independently or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. The role also entails directing medical activities, monitoring trends, and recommending improvements.

Utilizing advanced nursing skills, the Advanced Practice RN will engage in patient treatment and care, which encompasses medical assessments, limited prescriptive authority, and evaluating the effectiveness of individualized care plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver treatment to employees injured in the course of their duties.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Medical Director/Superintendent, including planning and supervising the work of others.
  • Work under the clinical and administrative guidance of the Medical Director or other supervising physicians with minimal supervision.

Additional duties may include active participation in disaster response and recovery efforts or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may require flexible shift patterns or location assignments.


Core Responsibilities:

Regular attendance is essential, and the role may require adherence to specific shift schedules, including rotating shifts and overtime as per agency policies.

Operate within the limits of licensure to ensure a safe and therapeutic medical environment.

Provide acute care to individuals, including daily assessments for health issues or injuries in clinical settings.

Assessments will involve diagnosis, treatment, and care planning, with thorough documentation of acute issues and injuries.

Prescribe medications within the scope of licensure and training, referring complex care decisions to the treatment team or physician.

Conduct quarterly assessments for individuals with chronic health conditions, reviewing treatment plans and making necessary adjustments.

Document all patient care accurately and timely, including annual summaries and pre-procedural histories.

Offer training and guidance to nursing staff and APRNs within the scope of practice.

Assign and prioritize tasks for nursing and direct care staff within the medical department.


Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of general medicine/nursing practices, including public health laws and hospital operations.

Proficient in medical evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment methodologies.

Ability to develop and implement individualized care plans and maintain comprehensive medical records.

Excellent communication skills for clear interaction with patients and team members.

Capacity to work independently while being flexible in fulfilling assigned responsibilities.
