The SFU Knowledge Mobilization (KM) Hub plays a pivotal role in supporting and inspiring the SFU research community to effectively mobilize their work, encourage collaboration, and generate impactful outcomes. The Hub achieves this by offering training, consultation, and resources for knowledge mobilization initiatives and projects, while also expanding recognition for researchers engaged in this essential work. Notably, the KM Hub is co-leading the Agricultural Genomics Action Centre (AG-ACt), a complex, inter-institutional initiative funded by Genome Canada.
The AG-ACt is dedicated to facilitating the coordination and mobilization of knowledge derived from a diverse array of research projects across Canada, aimed at assisting the agricultural sector in reducing the carbon footprint of Canada's food systems and supporting the nation's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
Role Overview
In this position, you will collaborate with both internal and external ecosystem partners, including project leadership and knowledge mobilization leads, as well as other experts, to define portfolio activities and enhance knowledge mobilization efforts.
Working closely with the AG-ACt Portfolio Manager, you will explore knowledge mobilization strategies at both individual project and portfolio levels, engaging with multiple cross-national project teams to support the dissemination of knowledge across various projects. This will involve stakeholder mapping, conducting needs assessments, bridging connections between lead institutions, and shaping the AG-ACt KM platform.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging to suit diverse audiences and contexts. You will demonstrate critical thinking in prioritizing goals and activities, ensuring project completion. Your collaborative nature will aid in building relationships, sharing knowledge, and addressing challenges. Experience in interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral work, coupled with a high degree of tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality, is essential. You are a resourceful team player who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced, and intellectually stimulating environments, with a proven track record in mobilizing research through collaboration, dissemination, implementation, and commercialization.
Qualifications
Master's degree in Social Sciences, Sciences, Health Sciences, or a related field (e.g., agriculture, genomics, communications) along with two years of relevant experience in community engagement, science communication, and knowledge mobilization, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Proficient understanding of knowledge mobilization practices and scientific principles.
- Familiarity with research concepts, principles, protocols, procedures, and terminology.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Strong writing abilities, with experience drafting internal and external communications.
