Job Summary

Brandt Group of Companies is seeking a highly skilled Platform Team Lead - Structural to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for the design and approval of Structural Engineering works, and preparing reports, estimates, and contracts.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and Approval: Responsible for the design and approval of Structural Engineering works associated with the construction of new buildings and renovations projects.
  2. Structural Design: Responsible for the design and detailing of Structural elements for all projects, including plans, technical details, and specifications.
  3. Team Leadership: Lead the Structural design team as required through projects.
  4. Preliminary Engineering: Review and investigate preliminary Engineering options during the planning and schematic design process.
  5. Collaboration: Coordinate with sub-consultants as required.
  6. Estimating and Contracting: Preparation of cost estimates, tender contract documents, and Engineering reports.
  7. Design Calculations: Prepare conceptual and detailed design calculations, layouts, sketches, and specifications which meet Brandt's needs, and which comply with sound Engineering practices and standards.
  8. Problem-Solving: Investigate field and design problems and prepare reports.
  9. Design Review: Review, evaluate, and improve upon Engineering designs, drafting, schematics, and specifications.
  10. AutoCAD Drawings: Prepare AutoCAD drawings for Structural systems including layouts & construction details.
  11. Building Design: Perform the design and produce drawings for building Structural & foundation components.
  12. Client Liaison: Liaise with clients, local authorities, and contractors.
  13. Site Inspections: Complete site inspections during construction phase, coordinate and follow-up on project issues.
  14. Contract Administration: Perform the contract administration (CA) duties on the projects including attending meetings, travel as required, submittal reviews, supplemental instructions, price requests, site inspection reports, meeting minutes and all other aspects of the projects.
  15. Collaboration with Other Departments: Collaborate with other internal building design departments (i.e., Architecture, Interior Design, Mechanical, Electrical & Civil) to ensure project success.
  16. Project Monitoring: Project cost monitoring and schedule control as requested.
  17. Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), Structural Codes, and industry practice & regulations/applicable Codes having jurisdiction.
  18. Software Proficiency: Proficiency with Tekla, StaadPro, AutoDesk AutoCAD software is required. Proficiency with AutoDesk Revit software is considered an asset.
  19. Additional Responsibilities: Perform other related duties as assigned.
  20. LEED AP Certification: LEED AP Certification would be an asset.
  21. Communication Skills: Good written & verbal communication skills, attention to detail, enthusiasm and driven to succeed in a positive environment.
