Position Overview:

This role is integral to our operations and will involve client interactions both domestically and occasionally on an international scale. Reporting directly to the Chief Underwriting Officer, the Senior Treaty Underwriter will oversee all facets of property and casualty treaty underwriting for Canadian insurers, managing a diverse portfolio of business.

Key Responsibilities:
Underwriting Duties
  1. Assess renewal and new treaty reinsurance programs in accordance with company standards.
  2. Design and negotiate suitable terms and conditions.
  3. Review and negotiate contract language.
  4. Analyze and negotiate pricing in collaboration with actuarial teams.
  5. Refer issues as necessary based on company guidelines.
  6. Conduct underwriting audits for existing and prospective clients.
Client Relationship Management
  1. Oversee the overall relationship with clients.
  2. Promote the company to insurance firms and reinsurance brokers to secure appropriate business opportunities.
  3. Coordinate and manage client engagement events.
Reporting and Portfolio Management
  1. Keep the Underwriting Management and Canadian management informed of activities, client interactions, and portfolio performance.
  2. Document all relevant information for assigned business in compliance with company standards.
  3. Ensure adherence to all necessary referrals and documentation as per company guidelines.
Candidate Qualifications:
  1. A minimum of 10 years of experience in the (re)insurance field, including primary underwriting and/or reinsurance brokerage.
  2. Educational background or experience in underwriting, finance, economics, actuarial science, or risk management.
  3. Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
  5. Strong analytical skills.
  6. Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  8. Bilingual proficiency in French is preferred.
