Job Summary

GFL Environmental is a leading provider of environmental services, specializing in reducing, reusing, and recycling industrial waste. We are seeking a skilled Refinery Process Operator to join our team at the North Vancouver Refinery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all refinery units are operated in accordance with GFL Environmental's standards and government regulations.
  • Monitor and control process levels, temperatures, pressures, and flows for applicable utilities, processes, and systems in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of refinery operations.
  • Use technical expertise to optimize refinery processes and equipment.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to refinery systems and processes.
  • Perform emergency operation activities as needed.
  • Participate in safety meetings and report any safety concerns to the supervisor.
  • Perform mechanical and equipment maintenance as required.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Train on unfamiliar processes and equipment as required.
  • Acquire and maintain necessary certifications.
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to less experienced operators.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in petroleum refining.
  • A strong understanding of oil distillation and/or hydrotreating.
  • A current holder of a BC or Inter-provincial 4th Class Power Engineering certificate.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A strong team player with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Able to work various shifts, including extended and overtime hours.
  • Able to perform physical and labor-intensive tasks.
  • Licensed to work in Canada.
  • A valid driver's license.

This is a safety-sensitive position. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of required medical, physical, drug, and alcohol testing.
