Position Overview

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) is seeking committed professionals for the role of Foreign Language Communications Analyst across its regional offices in Canada. Candidates should demonstrate a strong sense of initiative, motivation, and confidentiality.

This role is particularly suited for individuals proficient in translating one or more of the foreign languages listed below into either French or English, and who can collaborate effectively within a team environment. As a Foreign Language Communications Analyst, your responsibilities will include reviewing foreign language content, assessing its significance, and generating translations and reports that highlight the intelligence value of the material, thereby aiding in investigative efforts.

Reporting to a Team Leader, you will be tasked with evaluating and identifying both oral and written communications while providing insights to management. This position necessitates comprehensive research and analysis on a variety of topics, including social, economic, geopolitical, and cultural aspects, leveraging your understanding of the relevant cultures. A genuine interest in intelligence and political matters is essential.

Additionally, the role requires comfort with technology and social media platforms.

You may also be called upon to provide interpretation services during internal and external meetings and interviews related to investigations.

Educational Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution recognized in Canada.

For candidates with educational backgrounds from outside Canada, proof of Canadian equivalency will be required at their own expense through a recognized credential assessment service. Note: Higher levels of education may be considered as relevant experience.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in research, analysis, and report writing.
  • Experience in collaborative team settings.
  • Proficiency in using computer applications, tools, and communication/social media platforms.
  • Experience with computer systems.
  • Specialized proficiency in any of the aforementioned languages.
  • Language proficiency evaluations will be conducted through written assessments in a foreign language as well as in French or English.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in interpretation or translation is considered an asset.

Employment Conditions

Candidates must successfully complete the Foreign Language Communications Analyst Training Course. This position is subject to a one (1) year probationary period.

Security Clearance Requirements

Applicants must be eligible for an Enhanced Top Secret security clearance, which includes a security interview, polygraph, and a comprehensive background investigation, including credit and financial checks.
