Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified Before and After School Care Attendant to provide support to students with special needs at Alwin Holland Elementary School.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and provide before and after school care to school-aged children with special needs.
  • Engage children in activities, such as telling stories, teaching songs, and preparing crafts.
  • Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for activities and rest periods.
  • Maintain toys and other equipment, and assist with housekeeping duties.
  • Provide personal care to students, including toileting needs, as outlined in the Health Care Plan.
  • Carry out child-specific procedures, such as using adaptive technology and augmentative communication devices.
  • Supply support services, including photocopying, typing, and filing.
  • Perform other job-related duties as directed by the Supervisor.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 or equivalency.
  • Education Assistant or ECE college courses would be an asset.
  • One year of training/experience working with school-aged children is preferred.
  • Training/experience in non-averse behavior management programs, functional life skills curriculum, personal care, discrete-trial-format instruction, and communicating with low-verbal/non-verbal children.
  • Level 1 First Aid Certificate may be required.
  • Food Safe Certificate.
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities.
  • W.H.M.I.S. Certificate and other online safety training provided by the District to be completed within the probationary period.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a team.
  • Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to starting employment.
