Forbes Bros Ltd. is in search of a qualified GIS Specialist for a full-time, permanent position to enhance our projects across Eastern Canada. The successful candidate will ideally be located in Edmonton, AB, Winnipeg, MB, or Southern Ontario.

The GIS Specialist will take charge of managing GIS data, performing mapping and analytical tasks for various initiatives, and collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure timely and effective project outcomes. This role offers a hybrid work environment, requiring presence in the office and on-site as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Embrace Forbes Bros. core value of safety in all operations
  • Gather, organize, and maintain GIS data pertinent to transmission lines, encompassing land use, topography, environmental considerations, and infrastructure
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of data
  • Produce detailed maps and spatial analyses to facilitate transmission line routing, design, planning, and construction
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to incorporate GIS data into design and construction workflows
  • Communicate findings and analyses through reports, presentations, and visualizations to stakeholders and project teams
  • Assist in the development and implementation of GIS-based project tracking, KPIs, and analytical tools
  • Support the preparation of permits, regulatory submissions, and environmental assessments
  • Provide GIS data and mapping tools to field teams during site visits and inspections
  • Stay informed about the latest GIS technologies and trends to enhance processes and tools
  • Develop and maintain custom GIS tools and scripts to optimize workflows and improve data analysis capabilities
  • Perform additional tasks related to this role as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, including expertise in geodatabase topologies and parcel fabrics, as well as familiarity with online web-based products and FME
  • A bachelor's degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field; a diploma or degree in GIS/Geomatics from a recognized institution is also acceptable. A master's degree is advantageous
  • Experience in GIS within the utility sector, particularly in transmission line design and planning, is preferred
  • Proficiency in mapping and analytics software platforms, along with geospatial data integration tools and GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, un Earthed)
  • Familiarity with Survey123 and Python coding is a plus
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of effective communication and interaction with all levels of management, employees, and clients
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet the demands of a dynamic work environment
  • Willingness to travel as needed to various project locations
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's License
