POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the guidance of the Molding Manager, the Process Specialist is tasked with delivering daily technical support to enhance process efficiency and reliability within the Molding Production Area. This role involves identifying and spearheading Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives aimed at helping Molding meet or surpass its operational benchmarks, while also focusing on enhancing product quality, overall manufacturing effectiveness, and productivity, all while minimizing costs and waste. The Process Specialist will cultivate a workplace culture that is equitable, fair, and committed to ongoing improvement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Participate in the design, evaluation, and approval of new machinery and processes on behalf of the Molding department.
- Create and refine Molding protocols and Job Breakdown Sheets, leading the implementation of these new procedures.
- Oversee the facility layout for both existing and new machinery, identifying key strategies to optimize the current setup to reduce waste.
- Comprehend Molding and Operations goals, actively investigating issues that adversely affect Molding and downstream customer performance, and proposing or executing corrective measures.
- Serve as the primary liaison for Molding with Engineering on any process-related projects or concerns.
- Lead and advocate for enhancements regarding equipment upgrades and acquisitions.
- Establish rapport and constructive relationships with individuals across all organizational levels, ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders regarding issues and projects within your purview.
- Guarantee that proper documentation, spare parts, and preventative maintenance programs are established by the completion of projects.
- Provide insights and drive enhancements concerning technical processes on the production floor by identifying opportunities for improvement and participating in the establishment of performance metrics and the CI program for the Molding division.
- Facilitate the implementation of changes on the production floor, collaborating with shift supervisors and other team members as necessary.
- Lead, sponsor, or participate in specific CI projects and the establishment of Standard Work.
- Responsible for training team members on current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), Food Safety, and Quality protocols.
- Proactively identify and recommend methods to eliminate hazards, addressing unsafe practices or conditions, ensuring adherence to health and safety policies, and participating in Safety Investigations as needed.
- Under the general supervision of the Molding Manager, manage Molding projects, including identification, justification, risk assessment, ROI, cost management, time management, scope management, and resource management.
- Assist in the conceptual design of plant and production automation projects, managing the project from inception to execution.
- Develop project cost estimates and timelines.
- Lead projects related to production equipment, including analysis, planning, design, sourcing, ordering, and implementation.
- Provide safety training as required.
Educational Background: A postgraduate degree or diploma, preferably in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of technical experience in a dynamic, high-volume lean manufacturing environment. Experience in injection molded or thermoformed plastics and/or the food packaging sector is preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficient PC skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing tools and applications, as well as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Communication Skills: A proven history of effective collaboration and problem resolution, with strong interpersonal skills.
Additional Qualifications: Strong mechanical aptitude and a demonstrated ability to identify root causes and implement permanent corrective actions. General knowledge of In Mold Labeling (IML) and injection molding operations is highly desirable. A proactive approach and a proven ability to achieve results.
