Job Overview

The Advisor, Water Management will report to the Manager, Environment and Permitting, and work closely with other environment and engineering professionals at the Calgary office and Ekati site. The primary responsibility of this role is to perform water management planning and execution at Ekati Diamond Mine.

The successful candidate will work a Monday to Friday schedule at the Corporate Office in Calgary, AB, with occasional travel to the Ekati mine site, Indigenous communities, and general travel as dictated by business needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Life-of-Mine and mid-range water management planning, including underground working and open pit dewatering, lake/pond water transfer, and mine water discharge.
  • Develop, maintain, and update water balance and quality models.
  • Manage and direct water balance and quality databases maintenance and updates.
  • Develop and maintain water management plans and procedures.
  • Manage water management consultants in surface water and groundwater model development and report preparation.
  • Identify and mitigate water management risks and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in water management-related permitting proceedings and stakeholder engagement events.
  • Provide water management inputs during Life-of-Mine and mid/short-range mine planning processes.
  • Provide training and guidance to other staff on water management principles and plans.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in geoscience or engineering with a focus on water management.
  • Master's degree and relevant professional designation considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of progressive technical experience in mine water management and planning.
  • Working knowledge of water management/modelling and database management software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Preference given to candidates with experience working in the consulting or mining industry and in northern Canada.
