Clinical Biochemical Genetics Specialist

We are seeking an Associate Physician to join our team at BC Children's Hospital, providing exceptional care to our patients and contributing to the Division of Biochemical Genetics.
Key Responsibilities- Provide on-call coverage as first on call for the Division of Biochemical Genetics, with a focus on delivering high-quality patient care.
- Round on Biochemical Genetics inpatients and patients seen in consultation with all team members, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
- Perform and document admission history and physical examinations, progress notes, discharge summaries, medication reconciliations, and other necessary tasks, adhering to College and organizational standards.
- Manage the day-to-day care of patients, including writing medical orders in CST Cerner, and enabling the transfer of patients from PICU/NICU to ward or ward to the PICU.
- Order appropriate investigations and perform follow-up of results, ensuring timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment.
- Arrange consultations with other departments for patient care, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Participate in discharge planning of ward patients, ensuring a smooth transition to the next level of care.
- In direct consultation with attending staff, respond to inpatient emergencies, demonstrating expertise and composure under pressure.
- Communicate with families, consultant physicians, referring and family physicians regarding patient management plans, providing clear and concise information.
- Perform procedures within the scope of his/her demonstrated competence, including lumbar puncture and skin biopsy.
- Participate in the development of disease-specific management protocols, contributing to the advancement of medical knowledge.
- Provide teaching and supervision for medical students and residents, mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
- Attend patient monitoring rounds, teaching rounds, and interprofessional grand rounds, staying up-to-date with the latest developments in the field.
- Comply with Associate Physician programs CPD reporting requirements, ensuring ongoing professional development.
- Participate in appropriate professional development activities, including a minimum of 50 hours per year, 25 hours of which must be accredited training recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons' Maintenance of Certification Program for healthcare professionals.
- Attend two clinics per week, seeing a minimum of 4 patients, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.
