Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Sanitation Supervisor, the Cleaning and Sanitation Specialist is primarily tasked with maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the facility and production equipment in accordance with company protocols. This role requires a fundamental understanding of equipment functions, chemical applications, and the ability to perform basic equipment disassembly. The ideal candidate must thrive in a collaborative team environment, prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines, manage multiple responsibilities, and make informed decisions under pressure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Readiness to undertake various tasks as directed by the supervisor while adhering to all safety regulations set by the employer;
  • Compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety protocols, including but not limited to: Lockout/Tagout procedures, chemical handling, proper lifting techniques, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE);
  • Report any food safety concerns to the Sanitation Supervisor;
  • Adhere to Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOP) regarding the cleaning and sanitation of all required equipment;
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions for chemical usage and cleaning specifications established by the company;
  • Proficient in utilizing cleaning and sanitizing agents as well as high-pressure and low-pressure water hoses;
  • Disassemble and reassemble production equipment for cleaning purposes;
  • Manually clean equipment; rinse, foam, scrub, and sanitize production machinery; ensure that all areas meet established sanitation standards;
  • Accurately complete daily sanitation documentation (checklists);
  • Return all sanitation tools and documents at the end of each shift;
  • Work independently or collaboratively within a team environment;
  • Communicate sanitation-related concerns to the Supervisor and/or Team Leader during shifts;
  • Create and maintain POKA guides relevant to all production operations;
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred;
  • Prior experience in manufacturing and/or food production is advantageous;
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices in food production is a plus;
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced team setting;
  • Strong physical stamina;
  • Capability to stand for extended periods;
  • Ability to understand and adhere to various guidelines and work procedures (including health, safety, hygiene, and sanitation), while prioritizing and organizing workload;
  • Mechanical aptitude is preferred;
  • Basic mathematical skills;
  • Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation chemicals used in food processing, along with relevant practices and procedures;
  • Flexibility with work hours and willingness to work overtime and weekends as required;

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs from floor to waist 33% of the time;
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs from waist to shoulder 33% of the time;
  • Must be able to exert a maximum force of 114 lbs when pushing/pulling;
  • Regular and reliable attendance is essential;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned;
