The Prairies bureau of The Canadian Press is seeking a skilled, committed, and proactive journalist with sharp news insight. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work autonomously while managing a diverse array of responsibilities in both reporting and editing news throughout the region.
The selected individual will be expected to come to work equipped with innovative ideas and imaginative approaches to storytelling that will help shape the news narrative.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compose, edit, and curate content for CP's various platforms, including print, audio, and video.
- Develop fresh and inventive methods to convey stories across all media.
- Generate original story concepts, projects, and exclusive content.
- Identify and report on stories of provincial and national significance.
- Operate creatively and succinctly under tight deadlines.
- Work independently while also collaborating with the team as necessary.
- Review and enhance colleagues' submissions.
- Flexibility for occasional shift work, including evenings and weekends, may be required.
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Experience in a fast-paced, digital newsroom environment.
- Strong news judgment.
- Exceptional writing abilities.
- Advanced research skills.
- Capability to write and edit content in accordance with the CP Stylebook standards.
- Proficiency in editing and refining colleagues' work.
- Aptitude for performing under significant deadline pressure.
- Experience with various news platforms, including broadcast and video.
- Detail-oriented with effective time and workflow management skills.
- Background in political reporting is advantageous.
- Bilingualism is a plus.
