Job Title: Director of Education

Job Summary:

The Director of Education is a key member of our team at Sylvan Learning - Newton, BC. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality educational programs to students, ensuring their ongoing needs are met, and that our programs are delivered as designed. The Director will work closely with teachers, families, and school staff to provide a personalized learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the Centre Director in delivering assessments, updating lesson plans, and preparing teaching materials.
  2. Teach the Sylvan curriculum in a 3:1 setting to students when necessary, interacting with and motivating students during instruction, and evaluating and documenting student progress.
  3. Manage and deliver all conference activities, including preparing conference materials and meeting with parents to keep families enrolled in Sylvan.
  4. Ensure all teachers are trained and certified to deliver Sylvan programs and monitor their performance.
  5. Motivate and develop staff by providing ongoing learning opportunities.
  6. Monitor student progress to ensure goals are achieved and ongoing family needs are met.
  7. Conduct parent conferences on a regular and timely basis, with appropriate documentation.
  8. Maintain regular contact with schools via teacher conferences, either in-person, via email, or over the phone.
  9. Communicate with the Centre Director any concerns regarding student progress or instructor performance.
  10. May also be required to make school visits, establish and maintain relationships with schools for partnership and marketing purposes.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field from an accredited university.
  2. Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience, preferably in a supervisor role.
  3. Knowledge of current BC educational curriculum and policy.
  4. Previous retail and/or sales experience is preferred.
  5. Be comfortable working with computers and have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of iPads and Zoom is an asset.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn.
  2. Be hard-working, exude empathy, and love working with children.
  3. Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  4. Proven ability to discuss and sell Sylvan products and services to new and existing customers.
  5. Be a self-starter who can manage multiple tasks and competing priorities, articulate, organized, professional, detail-oriented, and able to problem-solve in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  6. Proven ability to communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively, a strong team player.
  8. Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  9. Have reliable transportation (vehicle preferred).
