Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Assistant to join our team at Michael Page International Canada Limited. As a key member of our construction team, you will provide critical support to our Site Superintendent and contribute to the successful delivery of our projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Site Superintendent: Provide support to the Site Superintendent with layout, health and safety, and general cleaning.
  • Read Plans and Specifications: Read and interpret plans and specifications to determine work activities.
  • Measure and Record: Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Assist in Construction: Assist in the construction of buildings from excavation to completion of interior finishes.
  • Load and Unload Materials: Load and unload materials and move materials about in work areas as directed.
  • Direct Traffic: Direct traffic at or near building sites.
  • Clerical Duties: Assist with clerical duties, including collecting and sorting of delivery tickets for materials.
  • Signal Equipment Operators: Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Operate Equipment: Handle and operate pumps for dewatering, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and/or equipment to move materials.
  • Maintain Site: Maintain a clean construction site.
  • Dig and Backfill: Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes.
  • Operate Small Machinery: Operate small machinery subject to proof of certification.
  • Perform Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Superintendent.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma: High school diploma required.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of Construction Materials: Knowledge of construction materials.
  • Basic Power Tools: Able to use basic power tools and complete basic building maintenance.
  • Experience: Experience working with project managers, site superintendents, trades, and subcontractors.
  • Driver's License: Valid "G" driver's license.
