Position Overview:

The role of Educational Developer, specializing in Community Engaged Teaching and Learning, is situated within the Office of Community Engagement. This position is supported by the MacPherson Institute.

The primary responsibility of the incumbent is to enhance institutional capacity in community-engaged education, while fostering and nurturing partnerships between the community and the university. This role also involves contributing to the design and development of programs and curricula for the Interdisciplinary Minor in Community Engagement. Although the focus is on community-engaged education, the incumbent may also participate in broader university discussions and committees that shape the evolving landscape of experiential education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with campus partners and various stakeholders within the university and the wider community.
  • Advise faculty on the development and enhancement of academic courses and programs that align with educational objectives.
  • Stay informed about institutional and provincial policies, frameworks, and standards concerning university teaching, curriculum, and quality assurance.
  • Provide guidance on program and policy matters, including implementation processes and timelines.
  • Collaborate with department leaders and faculty to identify teaching support needs and develop actionable plans.
  • Design and implement curriculum, workshops, training sessions, and other educational initiatives within the teaching and learning domain.
  • Facilitate training for faculty, staff, and students on effective teaching strategies and academic course design.
  • Evaluate and enhance training programs aimed at developing teaching skills and course design.
  • Offer insights and recommendations on best practices in teaching and learning, including accessibility and learning technologies.
  • Conduct interviews and focus groups to gather feedback for improving academic courses and programs.
  • Facilitate curriculum mapping for new and existing academic programs.
  • Organize and lead retreats and meetings for various departments.
  • Review academic course designs and provide evidence-based recommendations for improvement.
  • Create and maintain quality resource materials for online platforms.
  • Develop instructional materials for faculty, students, and community partners.
  • Engage in research related to teaching and learning models.
  • Complete necessary research ethics applications and proposals.
  • Conduct research to assess the viability of new programs and projects.
  • Stay updated on best practices in educational service delivery through literature reviews and conference attendance.
  • Contribute to educational research using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Publish educational and research-based articles and proposals.
  • Present research findings at various conferences.
  • Coordinate events and activities related to educational development.
  • Manage event budgets and schedules.
  • Document and report on program participation and outcomes for quality assurance.
  • Seek additional training or certification to remain current in the field of teaching and learning.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience.
