Educator of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students

The Abbotsford School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educator of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students to join our team. As a member of our special education department, you will play a vital role in providing support and services to students with hearing impairments.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct instruction and assessment of auditory functioning, speech, language development, and academic achievement for students with hearing impairments.
- Offer counseling and guidance to students on hearing loss, auditory management, and hearing aid use.
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, parents, and other professionals to provide consultation, workshops, and in-services on supporting students with hearing impairments.
- Act as a liaison between the school, home, and other agencies to ensure seamless support for students with hearing impairments.
- Successful teaching experience in Elementary/Middle preferred.
- Master's Degree (preferred) or graduate diploma in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (Hearing Impairment).
- Fluent in English or American Sign Language.
- Eligible for B.C. Certification.
- Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports.
- Exceptional presentation skills to communicate effectively with students, staff, and district personnel.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with equipment commonly used for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students (e.g., sound fields, FM Systems, hearing aids, etc.).
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings, and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate, and respectful manner.
- Organization & Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation, and assessment.
- Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics.
- Facilitation & Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students' interest, effort, participation, and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning.
- Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning, including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies.
- Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with others to achieve group goals and objectives.
- Caring & Inclusiveness: Create and maintain an environment that is caring, inclusive, and supportive of all students.
- Flexibility & Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility in our ability to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances.
