As an Accounting Trainee, reporting to the Accounting Manager, your primary responsibilities will include facilitating the month-end closing processes, performing general ledger and bank reconciliations, and preparing journal entries related to the Retail Finance, Commercial Finance, and Accounts Payable sectors of BMW Group Financial Services Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute general ledger accounting tasks, including journal entry preparation, month-end closing activities, ensuring financial reporting accuracy, and compliance with IFRS and ASPE standards, as well as GL account reconciliations and analysis of significant balance sheet and income statement movements.
  • Assist the accounting team in achieving efficient month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
  • Prepare audit working papers for mid-year, interim, and year-end audits, coordinating with the manager for both internal and external auditors.
  • Engage in discussions regarding recurring variances with the Accounting team, identify system issues, and propose solutions to the IT team to address root causes.
  • Collaborate with other business units to proactively identify opportunities for increased efficiency and address internal control gaps, reporting findings to the Accounting Manager.
  • Serve as an additional resource for Accounts Payable functions.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects and analyses.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with accounting software and Crystal Reporting is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in preparing and analyzing account reconciliations is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office tools are essential.
  • A keen eye for detail, a positive attitude, and a strong desire to learn are highly valued.
