Job Title: Senior Manager, Wealth Management Taxation

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Manager, Wealth Management Taxation to join our team at Scotiabank. As a key member of our Wealth Management Taxation team, you will play a critical role in supporting wealth advisors, planning specialists, and banking partners across Scotia Wealth Management by providing tax expertise and enhancing the delivery of the Total Wealth offering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a team of planning specialists to provide advanced tax planning strategies to high net worth (HNW) and ultra-high net worth (UHNW) clients as part of a holistic wealth planning process.
  • Consult and discuss with advisors and their HNW and UHNW clients on tax information and guidance highlighting options regarding tax, trust and estate, intergenerational wealth transfer, business transition and succession, insurance, philanthropy, and education planning strategies.
  • Occasionally participate in business development activities and prospective client meetings.
  • Capture and socialize success stories connected to client engagements.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to enhance the Advanced Planning and Services and the Wealth Management Taxation teams' service offerings.

Thought Leadership and Content Creation:

  • Write and develop tax thought leadership and article content for publication both internally and externally to be used by advisors, clients, and prospects.
  • Work closely with colleagues to drive the planning around the development of new content and the related communications strategy.
  • Write and edit internal memos and bulletins regarding legislative tax changes, Federal Budget announcements, and tax planning best practices.
  • Review content produced by advisors and other parts of the organization to ensure it is technically accurate and compliant with risk management guidelines.

Tax Education and Training:

  • Prepare and present tax education and training content for internal professional development purposes as well as client-facing presentations.
  • Lead the facilitation of professional development activities for planning specialists with more advanced tax knowledge.
  • Leverage industry contacts to identify external tax specialists to present to the Wealth Management Taxation team on emerging changes in tax legislation and interpretations that impact advisors, clients, and the business.

Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to adapt communication style based on audience.
  • Strong inclination towards strategic competencies – thinking, relationships, and influencing – that will support the ability to be innovative and evolve the Advanced Planning and Services offering.
  • The incumbent must be well suited to working independently and within a team environment.
  • Some national travel will be required to attend internal meetings in support of the business as well as attend conferences.
  • The position requires a high degree of specialized knowledge and experience.

Education and Experience:

  • University degree.
  • Professional designation (e.g., CPA, LLB).
  • CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program or MTax degree.
  • At least 7 years of experience in a professional organization providing tax planning and compliance for HNW and UHNW clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in speaking and understanding Mandarin and/or Cantonese.
  • Other professional designations (e.g., TEP, CFP, CLU).
  • In-Depth Tax Issues for the Owner-Managed Business course.
  • Solid understanding of financial products and services they are helping advisors to support.
  • Solid knowledge of marketplace and competitive practices.
