We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team at KAPP Infrastructure Inc. as a key member of our Safety Department.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the delivery of our Safety Program and contributing to the achievement of a safe and accident-free workplace.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and Update Safety Documentation: Participate in the development and update of Job Hazard Analysis, Safe Work Procedures, and Project-specific safety documentation.
- Pre-Work Requirements: Confirm all pre-work requirements of the company's Safety Program are satisfied before work commences.
- Safety Instruction and Materials: Assist the Safety Department in the development of safety-related instruction and materials.
- Meet and Review Safety Requirements: Meet and review the requirements of the Safety Program with company, subcontractors, supervisors, and workers.
- Subcontractor Submissions: Assist the Safety Department in the collection and review of subcontractor submissions (JHAs, SWPs, worker training records, etc.).
- New Worker Safety Orientation: Conduct new worker safety orientation; verify pre-work safety training requirements.
- Training Requirements: Coordinate training requirements, as necessary for job-specific needs; provide instruction to foremen and supervisors on Safety Program requirements as needed.
- Day-to-Day Activities: Observe day-to-day activities on the jobsite for compliance with safe work requirements; promptly communicate with supervisors as necessary to address potential concerns.
- Weekly Site Inspections: Conduct weekly Site Inspections using the company safety software (SI); oversee performance of weekly site inspections by supervisors; review SI reports and promptly initiate follow-up action as required.
- Tool Box Talks: Coordinate and/or deliver weekly Tool Box Talks for workers; collect and review records.
- Accidents and Near-Miss Events: Promptly report, record, and investigate accidents and near-miss events.
- Joint Health and Safety Committee: Participate in the company's Joint Health and Safety Committee; lead/participate in monthly meetings, prepare minutes; promptly follow up on issues through to resolution.
- Safety Program Records: Collect, maintain, and upload safety program records, as specified.
- Return to Work Plans: Assist with the implementation of Return to Work plans.
- Site Safety Performance Reports: Prepare weekly/monthly reports on site safety performance, and participate in audits of site activity.
- Safety Audits: Participate and assist with safety audits (COR/ISO).
- Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of construction safety experience.
- Education: Post-secondary education in Occupational, Health & Safety is preferred.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of OH&S Act and Regulation 213/91.
- Certifications: Working towards an NCSO Certificate is preferred.
- Software Skills: Advanced-user level of MS Office Applications/Microsoft 365 and fast-learner in using software.
- WSIB Claims: WSIB Claims, Return to Work, and Clearance Management knowledge is preferred.
- Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Team Player: Outgoing, enthusiastic team player.
- Independence: Ability to work independently.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Travel: Ability to travel within the GTA.
