Position Description: Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and project teams to ensure compliance with company policies, EH&S programs, and regulatory standards on a designated construction project within the business unit's geographic area. Facilitate training on safe work practices to educate and guide project teams in managing environmental and hazardous materials.

Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and enforce Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) protocols on a designated construction project, following safety staffing requirements as outlined by Headquarters (HQ) EH&S policy.
  • Oversee time and resource management while providing safety leadership for the assigned project.
  • Evaluate project safety practices and identify potential safety-related risks, developing and implementing action plans to mitigate these risks and enhance safety awareness among project teams.
  • Communicate necessary performance improvements to project leadership and teams, ensuring adherence to project-specific safety standards and best practices.
  • Analyze site safety trends and work towards reducing Project Incident Rates by achieving established Business Unit (BU) goals while managing regulatory risks effectively.
  • Create training programs tailored to project site needs, educating project management, employees, subcontractors, and Turner Trade employees on EH&S policies and safe work practices.
  • Promote safe work practices and conditions in alignment with company policies, Federal, State, and Local regulations, as well as contractual obligations.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with project staff and subcontractor Safety Representatives.
  • Develop and implement the project Safety Program along with related policies and procedures.
  • Identify unsafe actions and conditions, collaborating with the project team to implement immediate corrective measures in compliance with Turner, Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Establish an accountability framework for the project team to ensure proactive planning for subcontractor and trade activities.
  • Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Assess the quality of Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) submitted by project subcontractors based on contractual requirements.
  • Conduct Preconstruction planning meetings with subcontractors to discuss the site safety program and job hazard analysis for their scope of work, establishing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Generate safety action items for Preconstruction meetings and verify that subcontractors conduct training in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Implement an effective orientation program for new employees, ensuring proper administration and documentation of participation.
  • Collaborate with project leadership to create project-specific safety reports, evaluate metrics, and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure timely documentation of subcontractors' toolbox safety meetings.
  • Conduct and review safety audits for the project team, assessing corrective actions and issuing reports for immediate resolution of violations or unsafe practices.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant construction safety experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Certification as a Construction Health Safety Technician (CHST) is required or must be obtained within 2 years of appointment.
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour training and maintenance of current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certifications.
  • Thorough knowledge of Federal, State, and local Environmental Health & Safety regulations.
  • Proficient in applying safety and environmental principles and techniques consistently.
  • Ability to identify safety-related risks and lead the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with general construction operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills to build effective teams and professional relationships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with effective presentation abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Analytical thinking, sound judgment, and complex problem-solving capabilities.
  • Willingness to travel and access to reliable transportation is required.
