About The Role

In this role, reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and leading various project pursuits within our Winnipeg Buildings division. As a key team member, you will engage in project pursuits related to Industrial, Commercial, Institutional, Water and Waste Water Treatment plants, and Hydro-Electric projects, while also mentoring and fostering growth among your colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Define the project scope of work.
  2. Establish and finalize estimates using the company’s standard estimating software.
  3. Develop preliminary construction schedules.
  4. Conduct estimate quantification and draft labor costings.
  5. Identify and formulate constructability requirements for project execution.
  6. Evaluate design criteria and recommend options regarding cost, engineering quality, and material availability.
  7. Recognize and propose project risks and cost mitigation strategies, along with opportunities for cost savings.
  8. Assess potential strategies, advantages, or innovations that could enhance Graham's competitive bidding.
  9. Apply historical data to draft labor and equipment productivity estimates.
  10. Review subcontractor bids for completeness and accuracy.
  11. Compile conceptual/budget costs utilizing past project analytics and benchmarking.
  12. Develop scopes of work for subcontractors to assist in budgeting for smaller, less complex projects.
  13. Create an estimate schedule detailing all activities necessary for a fully quantified and costed estimate.
  14. Provide precise assessments of risk and scope for completed estimates.
  15. Generate and evaluate risk mitigation plans ensuring appropriate bonding, insurance costs, and contingencies.
  16. Select and invite financially viable trade partners with sufficient manpower and expertise to tender.
  17. Foster and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders that align with Graham's core values.
  18. Lead a team of support estimators and operational staff, overseeing their planning, delegation, and quality of work on medium to large complexity projects.
  19. Facilitate the Kick-Off Meeting, weekly strategy meetings, and any formal meetings necessary to ensure the estimate process adheres to established milestone dates.
  20. Understand potential pressures on fees and engage in discussions to accurately assess and calculate fees.
Qualifications/Experience:
  1. Completion of a degree or diploma in a construction-related field.
  2. Over 10 years of experience in construction, combining fieldwork and estimating experience.
  3. Proficiency in MS Excel, Primavera, OnScreen Takeoff, Bluebeam, and BIM modeling is advantageous.
