Job Summary

This is a challenging opportunity for a seasoned DB2 z/OS Database Specialist to lead and manage database projects and initiatives, working closely with experienced DB2 z/OS and IMS DBAs. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert-level technical support and guidance to application development and support teams, ensuring optimal use of database and transaction management technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead DB2 z/OS projects and initiatives, collaborating with DB2 z/OS System Programmers on upgrades and enhancements.
  • Provide expert-level technical support and guidance to application development and support teams.
  • Ensure databases are optimally designed, meeting defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs), maximizing reuse of existing database structures, and minimizing operational costs.
  • Develop and maintain Host (DB2 z/OS and IMS) database and transaction processing environments for application testing, pre-production verification, and production operation.
  • Provide technical support for transaction processing, data access, utilities, performance tuning, security, and database recovery.
  • Coach application staff on database-related technical matters.
  • Perform analysis to resolve complex technical issues and problems.
  • Provide skilled counsel in the technical design of applications.
  • Research, analyze, and make recommendations on software and utility usage.
  • Serve as the technical lead for projects.
Requirements
  • Excellent technical knowledge of database and transaction management technologies and operating systems.
  • Proven competence with data manipulation languages, data definition languages, physical database design, and application performance analysis and tuning.
  • Experience leading DB2 z/OS and Tools upgrade projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate with people at various levels.
  • Ability to learn and absorb new concepts quickly and apply new knowledge as appropriate.
  • Good coaching and mentoring skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • REXX/CLIST programming experience.
  • Experience supporting applications that use IMS databases.
