Accounting Supervisor Position:

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Supervisor to join our team at the City of St. Catharines for a temporary position lasting approximately twelve months. As an Accounting Supervisor, you will report to the Associate Director, Financial Management Services, and be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the City's Accounting Services division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, plan, and coordinate activities of the accounting team to ensure efficient and effective financial operations.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial reports and internal financial reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial regulations.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure the integrity of the City's financial systems.
  • Provide expert advice on accounting and financial reporting requirements to ensure compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and reports for approval by senior management.
  • Maintain banking agreements and review account summaries to ensure accurate financial records.
  • Coordinate merchant banking agreements and operations to ensure efficient financial transactions.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and variance analysis to identify areas for improvement.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as directed by senior management.

Requirements:

  • University Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
  • Must possess a recognized CPA designation.
  • Five years of experience in municipal finance or public sector financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards and legislation.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Commitment to enhancing a safety culture.

Compensation: Minimum $102,339 annually; Maximum $119,720 annually.

Work Location: City Hall (eligible for some remote work).

Hours of Work: Currently Monday to Friday 8:30AM - 4:30PM.
