Position Overview: Tax Operations Manager

Role Summary:
We are looking for a skilled and forward-thinking Tax Operations Manager to enhance our team in Richmond, B.C. This position is integral to our tax department, which comprises highly qualified professionals dedicated to both personal and organizational growth in a dynamic business landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the precise and timely preparation and submission of sales and excise tax returns for both the US and Canada.
  • Review and validate tax compliance documentation and account reconciliations.
  • Mentor and develop team members by fostering a culture of trust and providing professional growth opportunities.
  • Offer tax expertise and support during audits to warehouse teams across North America.
  • Identify potential tax risks and implement strategies to mitigate them.
  • Conduct necessary tax research and draft technical memoranda as needed.
  • Stay informed on federal and state legislative changes and assess their implications for our operations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with both warehouse and corporate staff.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, tax authorities, and external service providers regarding compliance matters.
  • Seek out opportunities for process enhancements and improved data management.
  • Assist in the review and approval of property tax returns.
  • Engage in various Tax Department projects as assigned.
  • Potential travel within Canada and the US may be required.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

  • Proven leadership and team collaboration skills.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a cohesive team.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Business Degree/Diploma with a focus on Accounting or Taxation.
  • A minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in public accounting or corporate tax compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role within a tax department.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Taxation.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP.
  • CPA designation (US or Canada) is preferred.
  • Experience with excise and sales tax is advantageous.
