Position Overview

The Relief Support Assistant plays a crucial role in the educational environment, reporting directly to the Principal, Program Support Teacher, and Classroom Teachers. This position is dedicated to aiding in the execution of tailored learning and educational activities aimed at fostering a constructive learning atmosphere for students with special needs or those requiring additional assistance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized or small group academic support primarily in core subjects such as reading and mathematics.
  • Ensure that students with special needs are offered a positive and engaging learning environment.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to promote student success and self-esteem.
  • Contribute to maintaining classroom order by supporting students who may exhibit challenging behaviors without additional assistance.
  • Enhance the overall educational experience for all students by allowing teachers to focus on their instructional responsibilities.

Qualifications

Typically, candidates will possess a Grade 12 education complemented by relevant training in special needs education and experience within an educational setting. Equivalent qualifications may be considered.

Compensation

The salary for this role ranges from $34.20 to $40.85 per hour, translating to an annual salary of approximately $66,690 to $79,657, along with a pro-rated annual Northern Allowance.
