Position Overview This role is a hybrid position for a Cloud Operations Specialist based in Ottawa, ON, requiring three days in the office. The Cloud Operations Specialist is a versatile role that encompasses both Engineering and Operations responsibilities, ensuring the seamless delivery of applications to production.In-depth knowledge of automation methodologies and software development practices is essential for maintaining the highest quality in our solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee all application infrastructure to guarantee our PaaS/IaaS platform is fine-tuned for optimal performance and dependability.
- Collaborate with team members to refine designs and incorporate feedback as necessary.
- Execute code efficiently and with high standards, adhering to group protocols.
- Review code contributions from fellow developers as required.
- Conduct unit testing on software components to validate module-level functionality and data integrity.
- Provide comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, code comments, and user manuals.
- Consult with technical colleagues and management regarding industry best practices.
- Engage in discussions to identify the most innovative solutions applicable to our cloud services framework.
- Enhance and maintain internal tools.
- Offer insights to improve the scalability and reliability of infrastructure to our Automation Architects.
- Deploy and assist in the upkeep of automation technologies.
- Provide Level 2/3 Support to our Operations team for all automation technologies.
- Document all build and operational procedures when implementing new automation technologies.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 3 to 5+ years of experience with build tools, development, and software lifecycle management processes.
- 3+ years of experience in Administration and User Management in both Linux and Windows environments.
- 3+ years of experience in Cloud computing and Virtualization technologies.
- Development experience on the application side, including deploying and supporting web-based applications.
- Familiarity with operational concepts such as change management, on-call rotations, escalations, and uptime.
- Experience managing production systems at a large scale.
- Proficiency with virtualization technologies: VMWare, HyperV, etc.
- Experience with databases: MSSQL, MySQL, Postgres, Mongo, Cassandra, etc.
- Experience with cloud and server architecture.
- Proficient in REST APIs, microservices development, and deployment.
- Knowledge of security-relevant protocols.
- Strong understanding of one of the major OS families (Linux or Windows).
- Awareness of security concerns and adherence to best practices from design through implementation and operations.
- Experience with automation technologies (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
- Familiarity with CaaS or PaaS technologies (K8s, OpenShift, etc.).
- Experience with public cloud hosting (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.).
- Experience with private hosting (Private data centers, Rackspace, etc.).
- Strong interpersonal skills with the immediate team and across departments.
- Ability to work effectively in a geographically distributed organization.
- Excellent communication skills across various mediums.
Typical work hours are 9-5, with participation in an on-call rotation. Travel requirements are minimal.
