Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist to join our team at Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services (PLMS). As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing technical work involved in laboratory and x-ray test procedures, evaluating and verifying laboratory results, and participating in quality assurance and quality control programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily routine duties in both laboratory and x-ray departments, including working on hematology, coagulation, and chemistry benches, performing quality control, and running patient samples and reports.
- Receive and process blood components and products, and transport them to various departments as required.
- Participate in the orientation of new employees, including conducting in-services and training sessions.
- Perform equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, and document all work performed.
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs, and contribute to the development of quality control and quality assurance procedures.
- Work collaboratively with other laboratory and x-ray technologists to ensure smooth operation of the laboratory and x-ray departments.
Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology Program.
- Eligibility for registration with a provincial licensing body.
- Completion of the NAIT TRAM 101 Course, or equivalent experience or training in transfusion medicine.
- Demonstrated recent working knowledge of the assigned section or sections.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures and technical competence to perform tests used in the assigned section of the laboratory.
- Basic awareness of research process.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
- Basic knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care using point of care instrumentation.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment and software, including techniques appropriate to the designated area of the laboratory.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents.
