Job Title: Optical Component Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Optical Component Engineer to join our team at Lumentum. As a key member of our quality assurance team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our custom optical components.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key areas:

  • Supplier Quality Engineering: Collaborate with our supply chain, quality assurance, and research and development teams to advise and approve specifications of custom optical components for new products based on supplier process capabilities, design for manufacturability (DFM), and design for manufacturability and engineering analysis (DFMEA).
  • Process Improvement: Drive proactive engagement to build predictability and end-to-end process visibility with suppliers, and plan first-article inspections (FAIs) as needed.
  • Supplier Management: Analyze alternative suppliers, ensure their suitability against capability, specifications, and reliability, and engage with suppliers and R&D to assess process capability.
  • Change Management: Manage supplier product change notifications by analyzing risks and advising R&D and operations through a product-specific change control board.
  • Problem Solving: Work with cross-functional and cross-regional resources to drive proactive engagement with suppliers, support component-related issues, and initiate supplier failure analysis and drive corrective and preventative activities.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Experience: Supplier management experience coupled with optical component design experience.
  • Education: Master's degree in optical engineering, electrical engineering, applied physics, or a related field.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of active optics, passive optics, fiber, and optical interconnects design and application, problem-solving techniques, and excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Desirable: Experience applying PPAP methodologies and automotive quality management experience.
