Position Overview

The Diagnostic Services division is dedicated to serving communities throughout the province, ensuring that all residents have access to high-quality laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and non-invasive cardiac evaluations. Our team comprises nearly 3,000 professionals, including lab technicians, imaging specialists, and support staff, all working collaboratively to deliver crucial diagnostic information. With over 80 service points, we take pride in being the leading provider of public laboratory and imaging services in Manitoba, facilitating informed medical decisions.

The General Duty Sonographer is an integral member of the Diagnostic Team, responsible for delivering exceptional imaging services.

Main Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Manager or designated Charge Technologist, the General Duty Sonographer performs ultrasound examinations as per established protocols and physician requests. This role involves effective patient management, handling exam requests, managing diagnostic files, and overseeing equipment and supplies. The Sonographer ensures a safe working environment in compliance with professional standards and provincial regulations, adhering to quality assurance protocols. Responsibilities also include maintaining accreditation standards and performing duties in alignment with the organization's mission and values. Assistance with radiographic or ECG tasks may be required when applicable.

Experience
  • Prior relevant experience is preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduation from an accredited Ultrasound training program is required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Active registration with Sonography Canada in the relevant practitioner category is mandatory.
  • Exemptions may apply for those with active registration with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), contingent upon competency evaluation by the manager.
  • Completion of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training as per employer policy is necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Proficient oral and written communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with office applications in a Windows environment, particularly Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proven capacity to foster constructive relationships in a multidisciplinary environment and with external stakeholders.
Physical Requirements
  • Flexibility to work at multiple Shared Health locations as needed.
  • Ability to manage mental and physical demands associated with the role.
  • Capability to lift and carry items weighing up to approximately 10 kg.
  • Frequent interruptions may occur during work.
  • Regular travel within the service area may be necessary, requiring a valid driver's license and personal vehicle.
