We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Estimator to join our team at Black & McDonald. As a key member of our estimating department, you will be responsible for leading a team of estimators and providing expert estimates for construction projects.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a team of estimators in preparing detailed estimates for construction projects, including costs of materials, labor, and equipment.
- Advise on tendering procedures and analyze tenders to recommend awards and conduct negotiations.
- Establish and maintain tendering processes and cost monitoring systems.
- Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects to ensure accurate estimates.
- Oversee site reviews, tender reviews, and project closings, ensuring seamless project execution.
- Maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, and ensure their qualifications meet company standards.
- Liaise with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to prepare economic feasibility studies and adjust cost estimates as needed.
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and advancements in construction methods and procedures.
- Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Travel to various sites or clients to undertake estimating and project-related tasks.
- 15-20 years of experience as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects with a value of $10M or higher.
- Graduate of a Mechanical Engineering program or Construction Technology program with related work experience, or a qualified tradesperson in the mechanical field with several years' experience and previous estimating experience.
- Advanced knowledge of contract management, construction scheduling, planning, and execution, as well as trade fluency in plumbing, hydronic, HVAC, and organization and time management.
- Self-driven leadership abilities, with a strong understanding of project management principles and practices.
- P.Eng. or CET would be considered an asset, as would project management experience.
- Advanced user of MS applications (Word, Excel, and Projects), Autobid Mechanical (QuickPen), and Accubid Change Order Pro.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
