Position Overview

As a Project Engineer specializing in Renewable Engineering (Wind), you will spearhead the technical design and support the assessment of commercial and utility-scale wind initiatives in the Quebec area. This role is primarily based in our Chicago office, with the option of working from our Montreal location. Proficiency in French is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead initial technical assessments of potential wind energy projects.
  • Coordinate site characterization studies with industry specialists, assess project limitations, and create optimized project layouts using GIS software to enhance project value.
  • Design site measurement campaigns, analyze existing meteorological data, and establish long-term resource characteristics across various project locations.
  • Model anticipated energy production and associated key metrics, including gross and net capacity factors, production profiles, energy uncertainty, and probability values.
  • Assist pre-construction activities by maintaining project site plans, including wind turbine layout, preliminary electrical collection cable routing, access road planning, and other balance of plant considerations, while facilitating initial and final geotechnical investigations.
  • Conduct site evaluations to support site assessment and wind turbine micrositing. Engage in landowner discussions, community outreach, and construction meetings.
  • Work closely with the dedicated electrical engineering team throughout the electrical design process and collaborate with the project management team to ensure successful project execution during the construction phase.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of wind turbine technology and related technical and market trends. Collaborate with wind turbine Original Equipment Manufacturers to optimize equipment selection for projects, focusing on power curves, operational modes, mechanical suitability, and curtailment strategies.
  • Engage with project development, origination, finance, environmental, and GIS teams to support project development, marketing, financing, and permitting initiatives. Collaborate with project management and operations teams leading up to and through project commercial operation, ensuring a seamless transfer of technical responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of engineering experience.
  • Fluency in both English and French.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated passion for renewable energy.
  • A desire to thrive in a dynamic environment with diverse interests and backgrounds.
  • Experience in modeling energy project economics and familiarity with concepts such as NPV, LCOE, IRR, etc.
  • Proficiency in energy modeling software (e.g., Openwind, Windfarmer), resource modeling tools (e.g., Windographer), and GIS applications (e.g., ArcGIS, Global Mapper).
  • Understanding of statistical analysis and linear regression models, particularly in relation to meteorological data sources and MCP methodology.
  • Familiarity with remote sensing techniques to enhance wind measurement campaigns.
