Laboratory Instruction in Diverse Chemistry Disciplines
The Department of Chemistry at Brandon University seeks dedicated Contract Academic Staff to lead laboratory sessions for undergraduate students across a range of chemistry courses. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to student learning and development through hands-on experimentation and practical application of chemical principles.
- Organic Chemistry I & II: Guide students through fundamental laboratory techniques such as recrystallization, distillation, chromatography, substitution reactions, and compound reductions.
- Introductory Biochemistry: Facilitate experiments involving plasmid handling, protein analysis, and western blotting techniques.
- Intermediary Metabolism: Supervise student investigations into the electron transport chain and guide them in preparing literature review presentations.
- Natural Product Synthesis: Mentor students in multistep synthesis techniques and analytical methods for natural product characterization.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee laboratory preparations, ensuring a safe and organized learning environment.
• Implement effective teaching strategies to guide student understanding of experimental procedures and results.
• Provide clear instructions, demonstrations, and feedback to students throughout the laboratory sessions.
• Collaborate with course instructors to align laboratory activities with course objectives.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.
Qualifications:
A Master's degree in Chemistry or a related field is preferred. Relevant teaching experience and strong organizational skills are essential.
