Position Title:

Power Engineer

Position Overview:

This role involves the execution of regular maintenance, demand requisition, and planned preventative maintenance tasks, alongside general upkeep of systems. The position requires working in a rotational shift pattern that includes daytime, evening, and overnight hours.

Your Responsibilities as a Power Engineer:
  1. Conduct routine preventative maintenance and inspections on mechanical systems such as air handling units, pumps, chillers, heat exchangers, and compressors.
  2. Oversee preventative maintenance tasks performed by qualified third-party contractors (e.g., fire alarm inspections, backflow preventer checks).
  3. Regularly inspect facilities to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently, addressing any maintenance needs.
  4. Perform visual inspections to detect issues, review equipment logs, identify potential hazards, and ensure operational efficiency.
  5. Identify problems and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency, lower operating costs, or comply with safety and environmental regulations.
  6. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  7. Manage access to restricted areas, ensuring they remain safe, clean, functional, and accessible.
  8. Respond effectively to emergencies, including power outages, flooding, and fire incidents.
  9. Complete maintenance responsibilities and documentation as per the Preventative Maintenance Program.
  10. Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment, making recommendations for new purchases as necessary.
  11. Update maintenance records, including the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  12. Ensure adherence to specified standards in line with contractual obligations.
  13. Perform additional duties as required.
Is This Role Suitable for You?

Essential Qualifications:

  • Certification as a BC Power Engineer Class 4.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in building operations, preferably within healthcare.
  • Willingness to work a rotational shift schedule in a 24-hour maintained facility.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, medical gas systems, building automation systems, and plumbing.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to respond swiftly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Flexibility to perform varied duties based on assignments.
  • Ability to evaluate information against measurable criteria.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications.

Note: This is a 24/7 facility, necessitating a rotational shift schedule that includes daytime, evening, and overnight hours.
