Position Overview:

This position involves guiding students through a comprehensive exploration of Jewish history from biblical times to contemporary society.

Course Description:

The HIS208Y1Y course delves into the rich heritage of the Jewish people, tracing their historical journey and cultural evolution across various civilizations. Key topics include:

  • The foundational texts and concepts of Judaism, such as the Talmud and Kabbalah.
  • The impact of different cultural and religious contexts on Jewish life.
  • Responses of Jewish communities to modern challenges and ideologies.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading tutorial sessions and facilitating engaging discussions.
  • Grading assignments and examinations with attention to detail.
  • Consulting with both students and the supervising instructor to enhance the learning experience.
  • Invigilating final assessments and performing additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in History, with a strong understanding of the subject matter. Experience with educational platforms, particularly Quercus, is advantageous. Candidates with expertise in premodern Jewish history and culture, or those experienced in teaching other pre-modern cultures, will be given priority.

Compensation:

The hourly rate for this position is $52.26, subject to the terms outlined in the collective agreement.
