Position Overview
The role of the Client Transportation Specialist at VON Canada involves providing essential transportation services to clients, ensuring their safe and comfortable journey from their residences to various designated locations.
Employment Details:
- Employment Type: Casual
- Program Focus: Transportation Services
- Work Schedule: Daytime Hours
- On-Call Availability: Required
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely transport clients in an accessible vehicle according to the established schedule.
- Complete any required certifications as instructed.
- Conduct daily maintenance checks on the vehicle to ensure safety and compliance.
- Maintain accurate vehicle log sheets consistently.
- Assist clients with their mobility needs, including the secure handling of personal equipment during pick-up and drop-off.
- Adhere to all confidentiality policies and regulations to protect personal information.
- Follow the VON Volunteer/Community Support Services Driving Agreement.
- Comply with all VON policies and procedures, including reporting any incidents or events.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, ensuring timely service delivery.
Relationship Management:
- Engage regularly with clients to understand and meet their transportation needs effectively.
Qualifications and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of experience working with seniors and individuals with disabilities.
- Proficient in handling vehicle restraints and mobility aids.
Required Skills:
- Competent in using accessible equipment such as wheelchairs and mechanical lifts.
- Dependable, flexible, and reliable in all aspects of work.
- Strong verbal communication abilities.
- Capable of lifting and carrying a minimum of 35 pounds using proper techniques.
- Attention to detail is essential.
- Physically active and able to engage in various physical tasks as part of the role.
- Bilingualism, particularly in French, is an asset.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver's permit and a clean driving record, updated annually.
- Must hold a valid G class driver's license.
- Proof of insurance coverage is required when using a personal vehicle.
- A satisfactory Criminal Records Check is mandatory prior to employment.
- A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check is necessary.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
Work Environment:
The position demands a keen attention to detail and the ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and reaching. Candidates should be prepared for various physical activities, including walking, sitting, and climbing stairs.
