Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Asphalt Roller Operator to join our team at Colas Western Canada Inc. Reporting to the Foreman/Superintendent, you will be responsible for operating various types of double drum and asphalt compaction rollers to provide adequate compaction and workmanship in asphalt paving.

Duties/Tasks

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating steel-wheeled, rubber-tired, vibrator, segmented or other type of roller to compact earth, subgrade, sub-base and asphalt surfaces.
  • Distributing, breaking down, compressing and giving a finished surface to cooling asphalt.
  • Driving the machine in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling subgrade and asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness.
  • Determining speed and direction of the machine based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures.
  • Pushing a hand roller and pounding surfaces, using a hand tamp, or guiding a portable power roller over areas not accessible to a road roller.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid driver's license (Class 5).
  • Experience in the industry is an asset.
  • The ability to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
  • The ability to work overtime as required.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires the ability to perform tasks that involve heavy lifting, bending and strenuous movements. You must also be able to work outdoors in areas that are dusty or dirty.
