Winnipeg School Division is seeking a qualified ASL Tutor to join our team of professionals dedicated to providing inclusive education to Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
Job Summary:The ASL Tutor will work with students in K to Grade 12 who are using ASL, developing their language skills and exposing them to aspects of Deaf Culture. The position involves visiting various schools, working with students individually or in small groups, and instructing them in ASL.
Responsibilities:- Visiting schools to work with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in K to Grade 12
- Working with students individually or in small groups to develop their ASL skills
- Instructing students in ASL, including vocabulary, facial expressions, and grammar rules
- Consulting with teachers to establish instructional goals and prepare lessons
- Maintaining records of students' progress and sharing information with the school team
- Sharing information on Deaf Culture and being a positive role model for students
- Native user of ASL and knowledge of Deaf Culture
- Training as an ASL instructor (Signing Naturally [Vista] Curriculum) would be an asset
- Experience teaching ASL to school-age students would be an asset
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Good organizational skills
- Knowledge of elementary/secondary curriculum is an asset
- Dedication to anti-racism, equity, and diversity
- Proven commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
- Proven ability to build collaborative cultures founded on integrity and collective purpose
