Job Title: ASL Tutor

Winnipeg School Division is seeking a qualified ASL Tutor to join our team of educators who support the inclusion of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in our schools.

About the Role:

The ASL Tutor will work with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in grades K-12, developing their ASL skills and providing support in a variety of settings. This role requires a strong understanding of Deaf Culture and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement ASL lessons and activities for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
  • Work with students individually or in small groups to improve their ASL skills
  • Consult with teachers and other support staff to establish instructional goals and develop strategies for supporting students
  • Prepare and maintain records of student progress and provide regular updates to teachers and other support staff
  • Share knowledge of Deaf Culture with students, teachers, and other support staff
Qualifications:
  • Native user of ASL and knowledge of Deaf Culture
  • Training as an ASL instructor (Signing Naturally [Vista] Curriculum) would be an asset
  • Experience teaching ASL to school-age students would be an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Good organizational skills
  • Knowledge of elementary/secondary curriculum is an asset
  • Dedication to anti-racism, equity, and diversity
  • Proven commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
  • Proven ability to build collaborative cultures founded on integrity and collective purpose
