Position Overview

The University of Lethbridge is in search of an English Language Instructor for a term contract.

The English Language Institute provides a diverse range of English Language programs tailored for international students learning English as an additional language, as well as domestic students seeking to enhance their language skills through tutoring and partnership opportunities.

The English Language Instructor will play a pivotal role in delivering courses, classes, and workshops offered by the English Language Institute (ELI).

Within the instructional framework established by the ELI, the English Language Instructor is tasked with preparing lesson plans, executing structured lessons, and assessing students' performance.

Key Responsibilities: Foster students' academic language proficiency Enhance students' language skills necessary for knowledge acquisition in a post-secondary environment, along with general language proficiency for effective communication in social and professional contexts Create an environment conducive to cultural learning within the classroom Promote awareness of diversity and global perspectives among students Cultivate a supportive, respectful, and collaborative classroom atmosphere
The English Language Instructor will report directly to the Manager of the English Language Institute and will be expected to: Deliver ELI programs in accordance with established lesson plans Develop lesson plans aligned with relevant program frameworks, curriculum guidelines, and departmental policies Assess and provide constructive feedback on students' in-class work, assignments, quizzes, tests, and examinations Address individual student learning needs outside of scheduled class hours through various communication methods Contribute to the development of course materials Participate in orientation sessions and placement assessments Complete administrative tasks related to teaching and assessment, including progress reports and attendance records, in a timely manner Provide instructional coverage in the absence of colleagues Engage in ELI Activity Program events as required Participate in professional development and training opportunities Attend University, Department, and Unit meetings as necessary Availability for evening classes may be required Online instruction may also be part of the role
Note: A strong internal candidate is anticipated for this position.

Note: The University of Lethbridge is currently reviewing job classifications for positions under the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE). As a result, the classification level assigned to this position may be subject to change.

Qualifications
A minimum of an undergraduate degree from an accredited post-secondary institution is required, with a preference for a graduate degree in TESOL, Linguistics, Education, or a related field. A TESL Canada Professional Certificate Standard One or its equivalent is mandatory.

Compensation
Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE): $5,990.00 monthly
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE): $6,687.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 12)
