Position Overview

The University of Lethbridge is in search of an English Language Instructor for a term contract.

The English Language Institute provides a diverse range of English language programs tailored for both international students and domestic learners seeking to enhance their language skills through tutoring and partnerships.

The primary responsibilities of the English Language Instructor include the effective delivery of courses, classes, and workshops within the English Language Institute (ELI).

In alignment with the instructional framework established by the ELI, the instructor will:
  • Design and implement lesson plans that cater to the academic language development of students.
  • Enhance students' language skills necessary for academic success and effective communication in social and professional environments.
  • Foster cultural awareness and understanding within the classroom setting.
  • Promote appreciation for diversity and global perspectives among students.
  • Create and maintain a nurturing, respectful, and collaborative learning atmosphere.
Reporting to the Manager of the English Language Institute, the instructor will be expected to:
  • Deliver ELI programs in accordance with established lesson plans.
  • Prepare lesson plans that align with relevant curriculum guidelines and departmental policies.
  • Assess and provide constructive feedback on students' assignments, quizzes, and exams.
  • Support individual learning needs through various communication methods outside of scheduled class hours.
  • Contribute to the development of course materials.
  • Engage in Semester Orientation and Placement Testing activities.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to teaching and assessment, including maintaining student records.
  • Provide coverage for colleagues when necessary.
  • Participate in ELI events and staff development activities as required.
  • Attend departmental meetings as needed.
  • Be prepared for occasional evening and online instruction.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess a minimum of an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution, with a preference for a graduate degree in TESOL, Linguistics, Education, or a related field. A TESL Canada Professional Certificate Standard One or equivalent is mandatory.

Compensation
The starting salary for this position is competitive, with a monthly range provided for full-time employment.
