Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to serve as a House Parent within our organization. In this capacity, you will cultivate a nurturing, secure, and supportive atmosphere in our group living environment. Your contributions will be vital in upholding household standards for cleanliness, nutrition, and financial management while providing a supportive environment for individuals with diverse needs, including behavioral challenges, developmental disabilities, and mental health issues.

Qualifications and Certifications

  • A high school diploma is mandatory.
  • Additional qualifications in food handling, culinary skills, or communication are advantageous.

Relevant Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in preparing meals for large groups, preferably in a family context.
  • Experience working with children, youth, or adults facing behavioral, cognitive, mental health, or developmental challenges is preferred.

Required Skills and Attributes

  • Strong cooking and baking abilities.
  • Familiarity with nutritional guidelines.
  • Capability to design individualized meal plans catering to specific dietary requirements.
  • Understanding of budgeting and resource management.
  • Competence in maintaining a clean and organized household.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, fostering genuine connections.
  • High emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
  • Empathetic, patient, and understanding in daily interactions.
  • Inclusive mindset towards individuals with varying needs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing education and professional development.
  • Basic computer skills.

Key Responsibilities

Service Delivery

  • Develop and implement monthly meal plans.
  • Prepare nutritious, high-quality home-cooked meals, snacks, and baked goods, including special occasion meals as required.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and housekeeping.
  • Provide compassionate care and support to individuals with complex needs.
  • Assist in teaching essential life skills such as self-care, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and promoting positive interactions.
  • Complete reports and documentation accurately and promptly, adhering to agency standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and feedback during morning routines, supporting the team and unit manager.
  • Exemplify positive behavior, uphold agency values, and demonstrate fairness.
  • Offer support and direction in areas such as housekeeping, seasonal decorating, and meal preparation.

Resource Management

  • Manage and reconcile a monthly budget for food and supplies.
  • Submit receipts and reconcile expenses for manager-approved purchases.
  • Accurately complete vehicle logs when utilizing agency vehicles.
  • Plan and procure nutritious, quality, and non-prepackaged food items within budget constraints.
  • Purchase household and hygiene supplies as necessary.
  • Ensure daily maintenance of cleanliness in the home.

Safety Protocols

  • Promote and maintain safe work practices and procedures.
  • Adhere to agency and government regulations, policies, and instructions, whether written or verbal.

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of all mandatory training as per agency policy and guidelines.
  • A valid Class 5 Novice 2 or higher driver's license is required.
