OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Reliability Engineering division offers a variety of products and services focused on operational excellence and business continuity.


The Site Reliability Engineering teams enhance the SAP Business Technology Platform by delivering round-the-clock technical support for Incident Management, addressing outages and significant incidents that impact customers, while adhering to SRE principles. We cultivate a culture that prioritizes live site operations and ensures the continuity of services for clients utilizing mission-critical applications in the Cloud.


We are seeking a skilled engineer to join our established SRE team dedicated to the SAP Business Technology Platform.

KEY EXPECTATIONS

As a Cloud Operations Engineer, you will have the chance to manage and support essential Cloud services. Your daily responsibilities will include proactively monitoring service performance and identifying opportunities for enhancement. You will also contribute to the development of tools for monitoring and troubleshooting Cloud services, utilizing the latest open-source and SAP technologies while following SRE principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical authority during live site incidents, investigating and resolving issues at a deep technical level.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and implement follow-up improvements to mitigate future occurrences.
  • Perform comprehensive troubleshooting and log analysis to identify and resolve complex issues in line with internal and external service level agreements.
  • Develop software solutions aimed at enhancing service reliability and stability.
  • Improve infrastructure and platform monitoring by collecting system metrics and implementing recovery tools.
  • Collaborate closely with development teams, addressing insights from postmortems and driving product enhancements.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and maintain technical proficiency.
  • Create and update technical documentation.
  • Define, promote, and implement SRE best practices.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to major incidents, with a specialized compensation package for on-call duties.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency with Kubernetes and a solid understanding of container technologies.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud architectures (experience with platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP is advantageous).
  • Scripting capabilities and experience with CI/CD (tools like Concourse, GitHub Actions, and ArgoCD are beneficial) - a passion for automation is essential.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations, with a knack for quickly analyzing and resolving issues in a global team environment.
  • Strong team player, enthusiastic about their work, self-driven, and motivated.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a focus on clarity and factual accuracy.
  • Fluency in English; basic knowledge of French is a plus.

Preferred Additional Skills and Competencies:

  • Programming experience in Python, Bash, or Go.
  • Certifications such as CKA/CKAD/CKS.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Familiarity with modern monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana, Loki, Splunk On-Call, Dynatrace).
  • Understanding of security best practices for application development and operations in a public Cloud environment.
  • Contributions to open-source projects.
