POSITION AVAILABLE: RAILCAR MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN GATX Rail Canada is seeking qualified candidates for full-time roles as RAILCAR MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN at our railcar maintenance facility. The selected individuals will be responsible for performing various repairs on railcars, which include inspection, welding, assembly of components, enhancement, and replacement of defective railcar parts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilizes current GATX repair protocols to disassemble, repair, install, and/or renew coils, valves, and various tank car fittings.
- Prepares equipment and surfaces for welding: performs welding, burning, fitting, and tacking as necessary to complete repairs (e.g., splices, patches, shims for cracks, etc.).
- Identifies and tests areas for leaks using soap suds and air, among other methods.
- Employs tools such as chains, slings, hoists, and forklifts to execute assigned tasks.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Capable of working in confined spaces and at heights.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, instructions, and work orders.
- Effective in both independent and team settings.
- Self-motivated with the initiative to identify and complete essential tasks.
- Reliable attendance and ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stoop for extended periods and transition between kneeling and standing.
- Capability to perform overhead work for prolonged durations.
- Must be able to lift up to 85 pounds from ground level.
- Ability to push/pull weights up to 140 pounds.
- Comfortable climbing ladders and working at elevated heights.
- Able to work in extreme temperature conditions.
- Must be able to physically enter confined spaces (e.g., rail car manways with a diameter of 18 inches) and work in enclosed environments.
