Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Railcar Repairer/Mechanic to join our team at our railcars maintenance facility in Red Deer, AB. As a key member of our team, you will perform various repairs on railcars, including inspection, welding, and assembly of parts, as well as replacement of defective components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Use current GATX repair procedures to dismantle, repair, install, and/or renew coil, valves, and miscellaneous tank car fittings.
  • Prepare equipment and surfaces to be welded, and perform welding, burning, fitting, and tacking as necessary to complete repairs.
  • Locate and test areas to be welded for leaks using soap suds and air.
  • Operate equipment such as chains, slings, hoists, and forklifts to perform assigned tasks.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Work in confined spaces and at heights.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as repair manuals, instructions, work orders, etc.
  • Ability to work effectively individually and/or in groups.
  • Initiative, personal motivation, and autonomy to determine and carry out important tasks.
  • Diligence and reliability at work, including completing all hours of work, being rarely absent, and completing all assigned tasks at a reasonable period of time.
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent lifting, bending, and standing. The ability to work in extreme temperatures and confined spaces is also required.
