Job Summary:

Lakeridge Health is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Technologist to join our team in the Core Laboratory. As a Laboratory Technologist, you will be responsible for performing routine and specialized test procedures in Chemistry, Hematology, and Blood Bank, ensuring the highest quality results and maintaining performance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialized test procedures in Chemistry, Hematology, and Blood Bank
  • Organize workflow to maintain performance standards of quantity and quality
  • Observe, troubleshoot, and report problems with methods and equipment to the Supervisor
  • Ensure cleanliness of equipment and immediate work area
  • Follow established safety and infection control procedures
  • Participate in student/staff training programs, as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS)
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • Current theoretical and technical knowledge in Hematology, Blood Transfusion, and Biochemistry
  • In-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships
  • Strong working and technical knowledge of electronic and/or mechanical equipment necessary to perform routine and specialized testing
  • Proven problem-solving skills, with the ability to recognize problems, identify the cause, create alternatives, and determine solutions
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, deductive reasoning, and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Proven organizational skills, with the ability to assess requests and prioritize them to ensure good and prompt patient care
  • Physically capable of performing bending, lifting, turning frequently throughout the shift to accomplish tasks
  • Recent experience in a Core Laboratory, preferred
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record

  • The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348
