Laboratory Assistant

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician to provide technical support for the successful operations of our teaching laboratories in the Department of Biology at York University. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up laboratory rooms, modifying techniques, and preparing materials as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assemble, test, and use laboratory equipment
• Set up experiments and assess results in a laboratory setting
• Troubleshoot issues, including literature reviews
• Maintain laboratory safety regulations and guidelines
• Operate a wide variety of laboratory instruments
• Support ecology, physiology, molecular biology, and microbiological laboratories
• Prepare media, perform sterile techniques, and maintain animal/aquarium facilities
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders
Requirements:
• 2 years' related experience in laboratory settings
• In-depth knowledge of laboratory techniques and methodology in Cell and Molecular Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Physiology
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
• Good judgment, planning, and execution skills under pressure or deadlines
