As the Senior Legal Counsel for Technology and Privacy, you will offer strategic guidance to management on corporate/commercial agreements, vendor contracts, business strategies, data privacy, technology, and related compliance and risk matters. You will collaborate closely with the VP of Legal and Compliance to support the business across various domains, including fintech, privacy, data management, governance, compliance, and corporate contracts.

YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS WILL INCLUDE:

Advising senior management on company strategies, products, processes, and risks, particularly concerning data, technology, and privacy. Working alongside internal teams and external partners to ensure technology transactions align with business goals and mitigate legal risks. Drafting and negotiating legal agreements between the company and its clients across various business lines, managing a designated caseload, and overseeing external counsel when necessary. Guiding and implementing responses to new legislation or changes to existing regulations that may impact the company. Providing ongoing counsel on strategic business issues and the legal implications of current and proposed products and services. Mentoring and supporting other members of FCT's legal team. Executing assigned tasks effectively while identifying and implementing strategies to minimize risk, optimize costs, and enhance client experience, all while considering FCT's contractual obligations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Active member of the Law Society of Ontario or another provincial law society (ideally with 5 to 8 years of experience). Proficiency in areas of law including data management, data governance, technology, privacy, fintech, and related financial services. Expertise in drafting, preparing, and negotiating large-scale Master Service Agreements (MSAs) and Statements of Work (SOWs) in the commercial sector, particularly in financial services. Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, demonstrating a high level of professionalism and sound business judgment. Experience acting as a lead attorney in managing internal business relationships across departments and meeting client expectations, often engaging directly with lender clients. Strong negotiation and drafting capabilities. Self-motivated with a robust work ethic and the ability to take initiative. Adaptability to change. Capacity to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a fast-paced setting. High level of accuracy and follow-through in completing assignments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities; and A pronounced entrepreneurial spirit.
