Position Overview

The Immigration Consultant is responsible for providing expert legal guidance with a focus on the International Student Program (ISP) for international students and their families. This role is essential in assisting students to comprehend immigration regulations to maintain lawful status while pursuing their studies and transitioning to employment in Canada.

Key Responsibilities

Consultation Services for Students

  • Exhibit extensive knowledge of immigration legislation, policies, and procedures, staying informed on current developments and emerging trends.
  • Deliver precise and timely immigration advice regarding temporary and permanent residence applications, ensuring students are well-informed.
  • Create a supportive environment that respects cultural differences and addresses the unique needs of international students.
  • Conduct individual consultations, whether in-person or virtually, and respond to inquiries promptly.
  • Collaborate with fellow Immigration Consultants on complex cases to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality and secure storage of all immigration documents and consultation notes.

Expertise and Team Collaboration

  • Stay updated on the needs of international students and relevant institutional policies, proposing initiatives to enhance their immigration experience.
  • Share insights and best practices during team discussions to promote consistency in advisory services.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures aimed at improving immigration consulting services.
  • Participate in team presentations and assist with administrative tasks as required.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with academic advisors and departments to provide integrated support for international students.
  • Engage with internal and external partners to enhance outreach initiatives related to immigration consulting.
  • Manage the institution's reputation in all interactions with government entities and related organizations.

Compliance and Ethical Standards

  • Adhere to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and related regulations, ensuring up-to-date knowledge of relevant changes.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of student information and maintain secure records for the required duration.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree and a Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law or equivalent.
  • Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant in good standing with the appropriate regulatory body.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in immigration consulting, particularly with international students.
  • Strong understanding of IRPA and IRPR, particularly regarding the ISP and permanent residence programs.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and demonstrate strong advocacy skills.
  • Experience in fostering a collaborative team environment.
