Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Teacher of Student Support to join our team at York Region District School Board. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to students with special education needs, working collaboratively with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement individualized education plans, and promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to students with special education needs, including those with exceptionalities and English language learners
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement individualized education plans
  • Assist with the implementation of formative assessment and differentiated instruction strategies
  • Model and lead professional learning communities to promote positive school environment approaches to classroom management
  • Develop and implement individual education plans for students with exceptionalities in a collaborative context
  • Teach in an ESL environment and demonstrate cross-cultural and/or northern teaching experience
  • Plan and deliver lessons, themes, units, and student support plans that meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff members to ensure a collaborative and supportive learning environment
Requirements
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the role of Special Education/Student Support Teacher
  • Experience in collaborative support to students in the effective implementation of formative assessment and differentiated instruction
  • Positive school environment approaches to classroom management (e.g. Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behaviour Supports)
  • Experience with Balanced Literacy Strategies
  • Experience in modeling and/or leading professional learning communities
  • Evidence/experience in developing and implementing individual education plans for students with exceptionalities in a collaborative context
  • Teaching experience in an ESL environment
  • Cross-cultural and/or northern teaching experience
  • Planning skills (lesson, theme, unit, year, and student support plans)
  • Effective communication skills
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $83,643 to $131,151 per annum, prorated, plus a Northern Allowance of $19,716 per annum, prorated. We also offer subsidized housing and a commitment to promoting the Inuit language and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (Inuit Societal Values) in our community.
